The Obstetric Anaesthetists’ Association (OAA) designed their Quick Reference Handbook (QRH) - a collection of action card guides for medical and resuscitation emergencies - as a print document for use in hospital settings. Originally launched in February 2024, members requested that the content also be made available on mobile devices. However, the print document was not well suited to being used directly on handsets and tablets.
Airsource decided to partially decompose the navigation hierarchy into card sections, moving content boxes onto separate screens and providing overview/detail style disclosure boxes for individual action card steps. This enhanced legibility and allowed users to navigate to relevant content quickly. Airsource also identified common content formatting elements in content boxes, and implemented custom mobile-specific layout that took advantage of touch interactions to display data tables and navigate between cards where links were provided.
